Abi’s Passionfruit Martini Kit

A fun packaging project for a good friend, 6 different jars of all the ingredients for her favourite cocktail the Passionfruit Martini a.k.a the Pornstar Martini

Work in Progress

I absolutely adored this project!

This project manifested in early September, I give myself a month for ideation and sketchwork to pull the whole project together, and I factor in delivery times from AusPost if I want to buy something online!

For example, in this kit - I had to buy the jars so in case I found the perfect ones online, they’d have enough time to arrive but I ended up buying the jars through Spotlight so it was click and collect!

Using subtle hints, I found out her favourite cocktail is the Passionfruit Martini a.k.a Pornstar Martini (feels a little crass using the word Pornstar for some reason) and so I got to work on the artwork and below is a few steps in the process!

The ‘Method Card’ was a trick a few different elements, being:

  • Grouping all the ingredients into each of their respective steps in the method

  • Visual hierarchy: your eyes read from left to right, then the top of the page to the bottom of the page. It was a matter of using scale and colours, to illustrate the order of elements into the first steps to the third and last step of the method. Scale for example, If i wanted the user to see a particular element first, I would make this element large in proportion to everything else in the art work so it is seen first!

  • being able to to read the text whilst you are making the cocktail, you don’t want to have to pikc up the crd to look closely at it when you’ve got your hands full of liqueurs and vodka etc

  • Whether or not to include the equipment needed, either on the same card as the method, on it’s own or at all.

I figured it out in the end, placing the equipment on its own card. I didn’t initially have the martini glass art on the method page but I enjoy the consistency and the space felt empty without it!

These are the stickers featured on the method and equipment cards and the pink stickers were the stickers for the jars! The lollipop-like sticks are for the seals on the jars, once I filled the jars with their contents then the seal could provide a quality reassurance. That, and it looks good.
