In late 2019, Experimental Image Making gave me a lot of freedom to explore creatively through lots of different artistic mediums: from bleeding copic markers, photography to building on my illustrating skills, as demonstrated on these vinyls.

My drawing strengths lie outside of humans and animals, but I was so determined to nail this concept. I created a stencil to give the women a similar style in regard to their form, so size diversity was ruled out unfortunately to maintain the style - I really wanted to demonstrate diversity as much as I could.

The women are a more organic form and the umbrellas aren’t as much, so they were added in later. I felt the umbrellas weren’t the sole focus but the women. The umbrellas weren’t an afterthought, just knew drawing them digitally would achieve a better look.

Digital Refinement
Since Gabrielle’s album resonates with all women, no matter the culture, race or religion. Themes in the album extend outside of women, but for the sake of this project, I decided to highlight the feminine experience.
“Choose an artists album, here is a vinyl and create your own album art” was the task. The options were endless, this subject allowed for much creative license that I didn’t quite know where to start!
English Rain is an album by English singer-songwriter Gabrielle Aplin, I chose this album because it holds a special place in my heart, one of the first CD albums I bought when I was younger.
The album flows through moments in a woman’s life that most women could probably relate to, from relationships to discovering one’s self/purpose. I wanted to reflect that most women go through similar experiences and literally illustrated such in a broad variety of different kinds of women.
